Ed Prep Leader

Teacher preparation programs can play a key role in supporting new school staffing models. These models often rely on integrating other adults, such as aspiring teachers or paraprofessionals, to provide instructional support to students in small groups or one-on-one tutoring. To effectively leverage this extra support, districts and teacher preparation programs must establish intentional partnerships. In turn, programs will need to shift how they prepare their aspiring teachers, which means developing more robust clinical experiences that prepare students for more collaborative work within schools. Ultimately, teacher preparation programs have a responsibility to prepare their graduates for an ever-changing educational landscape, one that thrives on collaboration and moves beyond the traditional “lone wolf” teaching model that often leaves teachers feeling unsupported.
